How selling works

  1. 1Tell us what you haveThe two-minute form above, or a phone call.
  2. 2We reply with a planAn honest read from a real person, within one business day.
  3. 3We photograph, catalog, and run the auctionTimed online bidding — a last-second bid adds time, so bidding only ends when it truly stops.
  4. 4You're paid within 30 daysYour statement itemizes what every lot sold for, paid within 30 days of the auction closing.

One special item? Start with photos

Most items come to our Roseville warehouse, where we photograph and catalog everything ourselves — you never need to take a picture. The exception is a single standout piece we’d sell right where it sits: a vehicle, heavy equipment, anything that shouldn’t move twice. For those, send clear photos and a short description here, and we’ll size it up and reply with next steps.

Dealers & resellers

If you move inventory regularly, there are two ways to work with us: a recurring seller relationship — we sell your items for you, auction after auction — or an authorized seller account, where you run your own auctions under your own name. Start with the quick form and choose “Regular dealer inventory,” and we’ll point you to the right setup.

Commission and payment

A single painting, a full estate, and a warehouse of equipment are different jobs, so we don’t publish a one-size-fits-all rate card. We walk through commission and what your items could bring at the free consultation.

Every term goes in writing before the sale begins.

Buyers pay by card through secure checkout (Stripe), so sales are settled before items leave the warehouse. After the auction closes, your statement itemizes what every lot sold for — and you’re paid within 30 days of the auction closing. What buyers pay is published on Payment & buyer’s premium.

Common questions

Do I need an account to submit items?

Only for the photo submission form — it ties your items to your free Placer account, so if we take them, your consignor setup is one step on our side. The quick form needs no account at all.

What happens after I submit?

A real person reviews it and replies by email from hello@placerauctions.com with an honest read and next steps — drop-off details, a walkthrough, or a pointer elsewhere if auction isn’t the right home for it. Please wait for our reply before bringing items in.

Do I need to sort, clean, or price anything first?

No. Leave everything exactly as it is — sorting, research, photography, and pricing are our job. Bidders set the prices by competing.

What happens to things with no resale value?

That’s normal in every estate. What can sell goes to auction; the rest is responsibly cleared as part of the broom-clean cleanout.

Can you work with an attorney, trustee, or out-of-state family?

Yes, regularly. We provide the documentation an estate, trust, or bankruptcy matter requires, coordinate access, and can run the whole sale without you on site.

We’re against a deadline. How fast can this move?

Bring the date to the walkthrough — a lease ending, an escrow closing, a court order — and we build the schedule around it: cataloging, the bidding window, and pickup days all set so the property is clear when you need it.
