Description
A Tonalá Mexican folk art pottery cat figurine, handmade and hand-painted in the Tonalá region of Mexico. This style of pottery is symbolic of Mexico's cultural identity and has a long history dating back to the pre-Hispanic period. The figurine features intricate, hand-painted floral and scroll designs in an earthy color palette, with a glazed finish. A common decorative element in Tonalá ware is the nahual, which is a pre-Hispanic shape-shifter or shaman often depicted as a smiling cat, similar to the face on this figurine. H: 3.54" | W: 2.95" | L: 4.92" Good condition.
