Description
This traditional Chinese New Year hanging decoration features fish and lantern motifs, both powerful symbols of good fortune and prosperity. Primarily red—a color representing luck, joy, and happiness—it includes two fish figures and two round lantern-like pouches connected by decorative red cords with a Chinese knot at the top and a tassel at the bottom. Made from soft fabric or velvet, the pieces are richly embellished with colorful sequins, embroidery, and golden accents, with small gold bells interspersed throughout. In Chinese culture, the fish (鱼, yú) symbolizes abundance and surplus, as the word sounds like “余” (surplus), expressed in the saying “年年有余” meaning “may you have abundance year after year.” The lanterns represent illumination, renewal, and hope, traditionally used during the Lantern Festival to mark the end of the New Year celebrations. Good condition.
