Description
This framed artwork is a reproduction from the 1824 fox-hunting series originally published by Thomas McLean of 26 Haymarket, London. The scene, titled Meeting at Cover, depicts a winter hunt gathered at the edge of a wooded landscape with riders, hounds, and accompanying carriages—faithful to the aquatint and etching series created by Alken and Sutherland. This piece was a color photomechanical print with the publication line: “London, Published by Thos. McLean, 26, Haymarket, 1824.” The artwork is professionally presented in an ornate Bombay Company frame. Thomas McLean was a prolific 19th-century print publisher known for a wide range of genres, with his Haymarket shop recognized as a significant source of satirical, sporting, and genre prints. His business remained active throughout much of the 19th century, with publications often bearing his distinctive blindstamp. This framed print remains visually striking and displays beautifully. H: 15" | W: 40" — good condition.
