Description
This is an original signed painting created after Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres’ famous 1832 “Portrait of Monsieur Bertin.” The artwork depicts Louis-François Bertin, a prominent French intellectual, newspaper director, and influential figure of the July Monarchy. Known for his commanding presence, Bertin was a patron of the arts and a key supporter of liberal-constitutional ideas through his leadership at Le Moniteur Universel and later the Journal des Débats. Ingres was drawn to Bertin’s strong personality, ultimately producing one of his most celebrated portraits. This piece is a later artist’s interpretation of that iconic image, presented in an oval gilt frame and signed at the lower right. Dimensions: H: 12" | W: 10". Condition: Good.
