Description

An original wok of enameled copper art created by the American artist Fred Uhl Ball. Ball was known for his innovative and experimental approach to the medium, often working on a large scale. He was a pioneer in using enameling—the process of fusing glass to metal at high temperatures—on a large scale, moving it beyond the traditional small, precious items. He experimented with techniques like torch firing, metal collage, and exploring "fire scale". His work often featured abstract patterns and rich, vibrant colors, as seen in the gold, yellow, green, and dark tones of this piece. He is particularly known for his use of various shapes cut from copper sheets, which were then etched, embossed, enameled, and arranged into collage-like compositions. Ball is well known for a monumental mural in a Sacramento parking garage, titled "The Way Home", composed of over 1,488 individual 12x12 inch enamel tiles. Included in the lot is a certificate of authenticity, issued by his estate. 12" x 12" Good condition.
