Description
A famous Japanese woodblock print titled "Shinagawa Station" (品川), also known as "Daybreak at Shinagawa" or "Sunrise at Shinagawa". It is the first or second station print (depending on the edition) in the renowned series The Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō (Tōkaidō Gojūsan-tsugi), created by the celebrated ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Hiroshige. The print, dating to around 1834 during the Edo period, depicts a busy scene along the Tōkaidō road, which was the primary route connecting the shōgun's capital, Edo (modern Tokyo), to the imperial capital, Kyoto. The artwork captures an early morning scene with boats in the bay and travelers and merchants beginning their day in the town. H: 10" | W: 12" Please note: visible water damage at left side of artwork.
