Description
This item is a Chinese export porcelain figure of an attendant or Immortal, in the famille noire or susancai style. The figure is decorated in the famille noire (French for "black family") palette, which uses a black enamel ground with overglaze enamels in green, yellow, white, and occasionally pink, as seen in the floral details on the robe. The figure depicts a standing man with a simple mustache and goatee, hair pulled back, wearing a black robe adorned with floral motifs and a light purple sash. He is posed on a simple base painted with waves and floral elements. While this style is famously associated with the Kangxi period (1662–1722) of the Qing dynasty, many similar export figures were produced later in the 19th century to meet Western demand. It has a hand-painted, red, four-character mark on the base, likely a Qianlong mark from the Qing Dynasty. Good condition.
