Description

This Japanese Arita-yaki porcelain plate represents the Old Imari style, known for its elaborate and colorful decoration. It is crafted from high-fired porcelain, a material once referred to as “white gold” in Europe. The plate features a traditional Imari color palette of underglaze cobalt blue, overglaze iron red and orange, and green enamel highlights. The center displays a single stylized blue floral motif, while the wide border is decorated with alternating geometric and floral panels inspired by Japanese textile patterns. The underside is stamped “Old Imari ware by Shoho,” referencing the Shoho kiln of the Arita region. The plate measures approximately H: 2" × W: 9.5" and is in good condition.
