Description
This is a vintage Japanese Kokeshi hand-carved wooden doll. Kokeshi dolls are simple wooden hand-crafted dolls with no arms or legs that have been crafted for more than 150 years as a toy for children. Kokeshi dolls are also often regarded as symbols of hopes for bountiful harvests, wishes for good luck and fortune, and great appreciation for craftsmanship and culture. This particular doll depicts a Geisha with a hand-painted floral pattern on her kimono, and delicately hand-painted facial details and hair. This doll also features the artist’s woodblock stamp in red ink on the bottom. The doll measures approximately 6” tall, and is in good condition.
