Description
In 1885, German inventor Karl Benz designed and built the 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen, a motor tricycle powered by a rear-mounted single cylinder four-stroke engine capable of 0.66 horsepower. This motorized tricycle laid the foundation of automobiles today, as it was considered the very first automobile ever constructed. This invention also later led to the creation of Mercedes-Benz. This 1:8 scale model made by the Franklin Mint recreates the famous vehicle with working tiller-style steering, chain drive, flywheel, and other intricate details. The model is constructed out of die cast metal and plastic, and also features brass elements. The model measures approximately 12” x 6.25” x 7.25”, and is in good condition. Examples of the model have sold at auction for $250.
