Description
Dancing Dogs of Colima Pottery Statue. The piece is a reproduction of one of the best known symbols of Colima Mexico. Although some believe the dogs are dancing or fighting, they actually represent the transfer of power from generation to generation. One dog is old and has wrinkles, while the other dog is young and smooth. The dogs are Xoloitzcuintles or Mexican Hairless dog. According to Aztec mythology, the dog accompanied the deceased and guided his soul to the underworld. The underside of one of the feet is marked "Mexico". Measures approximately 6.5"x 5"x 3". Good condition.
