Description
Inuit seal carving in polished black stone, attributed to Annie Takatak of Sanikiluaq, Belcher Islands. The seal rests on its belly with its head raised, relief-carved flippers, incised claws and white ring-and-dot eyes. Incised syllabics and a partly covered number appear on the base beside an English-language Canada Eskimo Art igloo tag. Measures 4 inches long, 1 inch wide and 2 inches high. Fine surface scratches, two pale spots on one side and abrasion at a base corner.
