Description
Hand-thrown stoneware lidded tureen and twelve matching footed bowls, decorated in sgraffito through gray slip to the buff clay in a Greek-style sea life design. The pedestal tureen has scallop-shell handles and a bud finial, with dolphin friezes on the lid and body and a ring of scallop shells around the finial. Inside, each bowl has a medallion framed by a rope border, the designs including an octopus, crab, dolphins, starfish, scallop shell and diving seabird. The tureen and a bowl are signed under the foot with an incised monogram and "Malibu"; one bowl has dark spotting on the interior.
