Hand-painted tin-glazed earthenware figural wall plaque modeled as a portly mustachioed grocer in a brimmed hat and plaid shirt holding a basket of produce, the concave reverse fitted with a twisted-wire hanger. Made in Italy for The Cellar, the housewares private label of Macy's. Marked with a green oval "the cellar" stamp and "HANDPAINTED AND MADE IN ITALY EXCLUSIVELY FOR MPD © 1995" with an impressed "ITALY."
