Description
An American sterling silver oval serving tray by The Watson Company of Attleboro, Massachusetts (successor to Watson & Newell; acquired by Wallace Silversmiths in 1955), circa the first half of the 20th century. The shaped rim carries an applied cast Rococo repoussé border of blossoms and C-scrolls with a pierced scrollwork cartouche at each end, framing a plain polished well engraved with a script 'W' monogram at center. The reverse is stamped with the Watson Company trademark above 'STERLING' and catalog number '4412' over a small gothic 'F'. Good condition, with scattered fine scratches to the well, light tarnish with darker accents in the border recesses, and old label adhesive residue on the underside; the cast border is intact. Measures 14 × 10 in; weight 609 g (approximately 19.6 ozt).
