Description
Reed & Barton sterling silver sauce boat (gravy boat) with matching oval underplate, hollowware pattern X525, dated 1937. Both pieces are marked with the firm's eagle-R-lion trademark, STERLING, and X525; the sauce boat also bears Reed & Barton's sailing-ship date symbol for 1937, and the underplate carries a lightly struck date symbol. The underplate is a separate piece, not attached — the boat lifts freely from its stand. Good vintage condition with mottled tarnish and scattered dark spotting along the rims and bowl interior, light surface scratches from use, and no monograms, dents, or repairs noted. The pair measures approximately 6 in. long x 2 in. high overall; the sauce boat weighs 89 grams and the underplate 84 grams, approximately 173 grams total.
