Description
Sterling silver soup ladle by W.K. Vanderslice & Co., the pioneering San Francisco silver manufactory founded in 1858 by Philadelphia-trained William Keyser Vanderslice, recognized by 1871 as the leading silver firm in the region and absorbed by Shreve & Co. in 1908. The handle reverse bears the incuse mark W.K. VANDERSLICE & CO. In the Aesthetic taste, the Old English-form handle is bright-cut engraved with a wheat ear at the terminal above trefoil foliage and berries flanking a diamond-form fan reserve, with a small oval cartouche and zigzag border at the tip; the deep rounded bowl has a scalloped drop at the junction. Good antique condition with soft tarnish and light scratches overall, plus dents and creasing to the bowl, which sits slightly out of round. Length 13 in.
