Description
A long, low rectangular coffee table of dense Asian hardwood, the frame-and-panel top above a lappet-carved border and a deeply relief-carved apron of scrolling foliage centered on a floral medallion, raised on short cabriole legs with carved knees ending in bold carved claw feet. In the manner of late Qing/Republic-period Chinese export furniture, late 19th/early 20th century, when low tables of this kang form were produced for the Western market as tea and coffee tables. The remnant of an applied label survives on the top rail but is now illegible. Condition: some scratches and light surface marks to the top panel (see photos), with scattered finish wear and minor rubs to the edges and carving. Approximately 50 in. long x 25 in. deep x 17 in. high.
