Description
A Georgian-style silverplate sugar caster (muffineer) of baluster form, raised on a spreading round foot with gadrooned borders at the foot rim and cover band. The slip-fit, high-domed cover is pierced overall for sifting and topped by an urn-turned finial. The underside is struck with pseudo-hallmarks in pointed shield punches — crossed keys above the Old English letters "M S C" (possibly "M S E") and the numeral "6" — a mark style associated with early-to-mid 20th century Sheffield-reproduction plate; the maker is unattributed and the piece bears no sterling standard mark. Good condition, with overall tarnish, scattered spotting, and plate wear showing a brassy tone on the dome and high points; structurally sound with the cover fitting snugly. Measures approximately 2 in across × 7 in high.
