Description
A traditional hand-painted ceramic honey pot from the Algarve region of Portugal. It is a lidded honey jar in glazed terracotta, hand-painted in cobalt blue on a white ground with stylized flowers and foliage. The shoulder is inscribed "MEL DO ALGARVE" on one side and "HONEY OF ALGARVE" on the reverse within cobalt banding, beneath a domed cover with acorn-form finial. The redware body is exposed at the base and interior. While it is functional for storing honey, this type of jar is also popular as a decorative kitchen accents or collectible. 6"H Please note: small chip at rim-see photos.
