Description

An antique Japanese Nippon porcelain vase, likely produced between 1891 and 1921. It is a souvenir piece specifically crafted for the American market, featuring a hand-painted landscape of Mount Adams in Washington state. The vase belongs to the "Nippon" era of Japanese porcelain, which refers to pieces made for export to the West before 1921. It features a cobalt blue glaze with gold accents and moriage (intricate raised beadwork or scrollwork) framing the central scenic panel. The piece is a bulbous, footed vase with three small feet and two gilded handles. The hand-painted scene depicts Mount Adams with a historically cited elevation of 12,460 feet inscribed above it; while modern measurements place the mountain at 12,281 feet, the higher figure was common in late 19th-century geographical records. 5.5"H x 4.5"W Good condition.
