Description
A vintage Mexican folk art piece featuring a relief sculpture of an Aztec deity, identified as Xipe Totec. The figure and its decorative border are typically made from crushed malachite or malachite-colored resin. These pieces are frequently attributed to Creaciones Zarebski, a workshop founded by Polish sculptor Michael Zarebski in Mexico during the mid-20th century. The central figure is Xipe Totec, the Aztec god of spring, regeneration, and agriculture. Made from crushed malachite or artificial stone. It is mounted on red velvet within a dark wood molded frame, with a wire hanger fitted to the burlap-covered backing. 9"H x 1.5"W x 6.5"L Please note: small scratches on frame.
