Description
A limited edition signed print by Outer Banks artist Fini Beunis (1922–2006) depicting a row of weathered shingle beach cottages on the dunes of Old Nags Head, North Carolina. Pencil-signed in the lower right and numbered 744/1000, with a second pencil signature at lower left, framed under glass with a gray linen-look mat. Fini Q. Beunis (1922–2006) was born in Limburg, Netherlands and studied at the Art Academy in Maastricht before studying under Dutch artists Cor Driessen and Bakker. She immigrated to the United States in 1956, settling first in Portsmouth, Virginia, and moved to the Outer Banks of North Carolina in 1976, where she and her sculptor husband Steve operated The Blacksmith Gallery at Sea Holly Square in Kill Devil Hills for many years. The Outer Banks—its historic cottages, life-saving stations, and seascapes—became the defining subject of her realistic watercolors and gouaches, and she began exhibiting at Seaside Art Gallery in Nags Head in 1969. This print depicts the iconic 'unpainted aristocracy' row of weathered cedar-shingle cottages along the Old Nags Head oceanfront, rendered in her characteristic muted blue-gray palette with a wide, cloud-filled sky. 18"H x 26"L Good condition.
