Description
American art pottery vase in the Roseville Clematis pattern, shape 102-6, finished in the green colorway with relief-molded clematis blossoms and foliage against a textured matte ground. This is a Roseville Pottery vase in the Clematis pattern, shape number 102-6 (six inches tall), produced in the green colorway. Clematis is a late-period pattern introduced by Roseville Pottery in 1944, produced in standard colors of brown, blue, or green. The form features a tapered cylindrical neck rising from a bulbous lower body, flanked by a pair of open, stylized buttressed handles; the front is modeled in low relief with mauve-pink clematis blossoms with yellow centers on leafy stems, set against a combed, grass-like matte green ground. Clematis is marked with the raised Roseville script mark, shape number, and size, and factory stock pages show 47 shapes including vases, jardinières, pedestals, ewers, cookie jars, tea service pieces, bookends, wall pockets, and cornucopias. The 102-6 is the smallest of the two-handled vase forms in the Clematis line and is a recognized collector shape within the pattern. Condition: Photographed examples show an intact body with both handles present, crisp molded floral relief, and an even matte glaze with expected low-sheen finish. No chips, cracks, or hairlines are visible; the underside/base is not shown, so that surface is not assessed here.
