Description
A color woodcut titled "Feast of Lights" (or sometimes referred to as "Chanukah") by the American artist Irving Amen (1918–2011). The tri-tone woodcut depicts four children gathered around a menorah celebrating Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights. As all the candles appear to be lit, the scene likely represents the eighth and final night of the festival. The image is filled with other Judaica imagery, including a dreidel, a Torah scroll, and Hanukkah gelt. It is a color woodcut, signed and numbered (29/250) by the artist in pencil along the bottom edge. It is dated circa 1980. Irving Amen was a highly regarded American painter, sculptor, and printmaker known for his mastery of woodcuts and etchings. He taught at the Pratt Institute and the University of Notre Dame. His work is held in permanent collections at prestigious institutions, including the Smithsonian Institution and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). 18.25"W x 24"L Good condition.
