Description
A vintage tiered ceramic letter rack from the Faïencerie de Gien, a renowned French manufacturer founded in 1821 in the Loire Valley. The item features a classic Rouen-style pattern, characterized by its blue-on-white floral motifs and intricate urn designs, which were inspired by the prestigious 18th-century ceramics of Rouen. It has a three-tiered scalloped rack with hand-painted floral sprays and a central decorative medallion. Historically used as a desktop organizer for mail or stationary, often part of a larger desk set. Gien is particularly famous for its warm-white clay and deep cobalt blue glazes, which are still produced using artisanal techniques today. Marked at underside with the "Angélus" monogram, which is frequently found on antique Gien porcelain and earthenware. 7"H x 7"W x 10"L Good condition.
