Description
Mysterious antique ceramic container featuring hand-painted and transfer-printed scenes of traditional Dutch figures—a woman in a bonnet and a windmill, set against a muted, landscape background. It has a squat, bulbous porcelain body with a matte "vellum" glaze finish. Includes a specialized perforated grey lid, likely made of ceramic or a metal alloy, designed for use as a flower frog (to arrange stems) or a tobacco humidor. Oddly, it has an inscription that reads "A Present from Caernarvon", which would normally indicate that it was sold as a souvenir from the town of Caernarvon in Wales, however those type of souvenir items usually feature Welsh images. These types of items were popular in the United Kingdom during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. 4"H x 3.5"W Good condition.
