Description
A vintage miter box saw, produced by E.C. Atkins & Co. of Indianapolis, Indiana. This as a "No. 1" model. It is made of Silver Steel, which was the company’s proprietary brand of high-quality saw steel, noted for its hardness and ability to hold a sharp edge. The etching on the saw blade features the iconic "AAA" (Atkins Always Ahead) trademark inside a circle, a slogan the company used to emphasize its position at the "cutting edge" of saw technology. Founded by Elias C. Atkins in 1855, E.C. Atkins & Co. became one of the "Big Three" American saw manufacturers, alongside Disston and Simonds. Given the style of the etch and the "AAA" trademark, this saw likely dates from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century (ca. 1890s–1950s). Length 33” Good condition.
