Description
A Galileo thermometer, a decorative device used to estimate ambient indoor temperature based on the principle of buoyancy. It consists of a sealed glass cylinder filled with liquid and several colored glass spheres, each containing a calibrated liquid and a numbered temperature tag. As the surrounding temperature changes, the density of the liquid in the cylinder changes, causing the spheres to either sink or float. The current temperature is indicated by the tag on the lowest sphere currently floating at the top of the cylinder. These thermometers are generally considered decorative items rather than high-precision scientific instruments. Height 25 inches Good condition.
