Description
An antique Japanese Satsuma vase. Satsuma ware originates from the Satsuma Province in southern Kyūshū, Japan. These vases are typically recognized for their intricate, hand-painted details, often featuring figures, deities, or floral motifs. The piece exhibits common decorative elements such as gold leaf gilding and rich polychromatic enamels. Many vases of this style, often referred to as "moriage," feature raised, three-dimensional enamel decoration that gives the surface a textured, tactile quality. Satsuma ware became particularly popular in the West following the 1867 Paris Exposition, where it was highly sought after by collectors for its elaborate and ornate aesthetic. 2.5 inches diameter 4 inches tall Good condition.
