Description
Manufactured by Warren Axe & Tool Co. of Warren, Pennsylvania, this Sager Chemical double-bit axe features a forged steel head treated with Sager's patented chemical tempering process (patented 1895) designed to improve edge retention and corrosion resistance. The head is stamped "SAGER / WARREN AXE & TOOL CO. / WARREN, PA." with a weight mark indicating a 3 lb head, and is mounted on a straight hickory handle. Production dates to between 1893 and 1950, prior to the company's sale to Collins & Co.
