Description
An antique wooden wedding basket from China, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. This substantial, barrel-shaped basket is constructed from solid wood panels with a heavily patinated red lacquer finish. The removable lid is incised with a large central Yin-Yang motif, a symbol of harmony. Traditionally, such baskets were used in wedding ceremonies to carry auspicious foods symbolizing prosperity and fertility. The item's measurements are 13" (H) x 21" (W) and it is in good antique condition, with significant, authentic wear and patina to the lacquer finish.
