Description
A mercury glass compote bowl; a decorative piece typically used as a table centerpiece for floral arrangements or as a fruit bowl. These bowls feature a scalloped or ruffled rim and are set on a footed pedestal base. The finish is "mercury glass," which has a distinctive shimmering, antique-style metallic appearance. Mercury glass, or silvered glass, is a double-walled, decorative glass popular since the 19th century, featuring a reflective, mirror-like coating trapped between layers. Despite its name, it rarely contains mercury, using silver nitrate instead. 7" H x 8" Dia Good condition.
