Description

This small sculptural figurine depicts an armadillo rendered in a traditional folk-art style. It is hand-carved from a single piece of dense, dark hardwood commonly referred to as ironwood and finished with a smooth, polished surface that highlights the natural grain of the wood. The form shows the animal in a walking or standing pose, complete with a segmented, textured shell, tapered tail, and small pointed ears, capturing the simple yet expressive character typical of handcrafted animal carvings. Pieces of this type are frequently associated with vintage Mexican folk art traditions, particularly carvings attributed to artisans of the Seri Indigenous community in Sonora, Mexico, where ironwood carving has long been practiced. The figurine measures approximately 4½ inches in length and 2 inches in height and remains in good overall condition.
