Description
This early- to mid-20th-century hand-carved wooden redhead drake decoy is carved from solid wood. It shows authentic age and field wear, with naturally distressed paint revealing areas of bare wood beneath, characteristic of true “gunning decoys” that were actively used rather than purely decorative. The head retains a rich reddish-brown tone, complemented by a darker bill and expressive glass eyes. Its straightforward, functional carving style suggests regional influence from areas such as the Chesapeake Bay or the American Midwest, where practical decoy making flourished. Measuring approximately 16 inches long by 7 inches high, the decoy remains in good vintage condition.
