Description
This framed color etching depicts Wien. Allgemeines Krankenhaus (Vienna General Hospital), presenting a detailed urban view of one of Vienna’s most important historic institutions. The composition shows the long hospital façade animated by street activity, figures, and architectural detail, rendered with careful linear precision and subtle coloration. The work is signed in pencil by Wilhelm Landsmann. Landsmann was born in Vienna and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 1925 to 1929, where he was taught by the etcher Rudolf Jettmar. He was active as a painter and printmaker and a member of the Berufsvereinigung Bildender Künstler Österreichs, producing portraits, landscapes, city views, and etchings characterized by strong draftsmanship and historical sensitivity. The present work reflects his interest in Viennese architecture and everyday life. Presented in a wood frame with gilt-accented inner molding. Overall condition is good. Approximate framed dimensions: 18" L x 22" W.
