A vintage Japanese geisha or maiko doll, often referred to as Nihon ningyo (Japanese doll). These collectible dolls are known for their handcrafted details, featuring a plaster or composition head, fabric kimono, and a lacquered base. The doll depicts a woman in traditional Japanese attire, specifically a purple, white, and red kimono with floral patterns, typical of a geisha or a maiko (apprentice geisha). The pose, with one foot forward and the flowing robes, is a common style for these types of dolls. The figurine holds a lion dance (Shishimai) head, part of a traditional Japanese folk performance. 22" H Good condition.
