Description
This framed print reproduces Rembrandt’s renowned 1662 oil painting, The Sampling Officials (also known as Syndics of the Drapers’ Guild), one of the Dutch master’s final and most celebrated group portraits. Originally housed in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, the painting depicts five officials of the Drapers’ Guild, responsible for inspecting and grading cloth, along with their attendant standing behind them. The composition centers on the men seated around a richly patterned Persian rug, with an open sample or account book before them. Rembrandt’s dramatic use of light, shadow, and perspective gives the scene a sense of immediacy, as if the viewer has just entered the room and caught their attention. This framed print was distributed by the “Picture Department” of Breuner’s — a well-known furniture retailer that also sold framed art reproductions and home décor. H: 8" | W: 11", good condition.
