Description
A vintage, hand-painted lidded jar, made from lacquerware (paper mache), with decorations in an Indo-Persian or Middle Eastern style. It features miniature-style paintings of figures among foliage. The decorations feature a repeating figural scene with individuals in traditional attire, surrounded by a delicate, engraved, or painted leaf-and-vine motif. The colors are warm, primarily a mustard yellow or cream base with brown and muted green details. The artistic style, particularly the detailed figures and ornate patterns, is highly characteristic of items from the Middle East, such as Persian or Kashmiri craftsmanship, which often features miniature art and metalwork influences. These jars are typically used as decorative objects, or as containers for storing small items like tea, spices, or jewelry. H: 2 1/2" Good condition.
