Description
An antique sterling silver vesta case, also commonly referred to as a match safe. It features an ornate, hand-engraved all-over design of leaves and a central oval cartouche engraved with a monogram. Vesta cases were popular from the mid-19th century to the early 20th century to securely hold short matches ("vestas") and keep them dry. The detailed foliate (leaf and scrollwork) engraving was a high-end finish common in the Victorian and Edwardian eras, designed to fit comfortably in a pocket. 12" L x 1" W Good condition.
