Description
A Chinese porcelain snuff bottle with famille rose decoration, likely dating to the 19th or 20th century. The bottle is hand-painted with figural scenes in colored enamels, specifically depicting a court lady and a child in a domestic setting, which is a common motif in Chinese art. It features polychrome (many-colored) enamels in the famille rose style, known for its predominant use of pink hues, along with green, yellow, and blue. The figures and background elements are hand-painted within framed sections (cartouches). The stopper is separate, possibly hardstone, or potentially a plastic replacement designed to mimic jade, as stoppers are often replaced over time. Snuff bottles were popular in China from the early 1700s through the Qing Dynasty and into the 20th century. 2 1/2" H Good condition.
