Description
A Chinese reverse-painted glass snuff bottle with a reddish-brown stopper. The landscape scene, including mountains and water, is painted from the inside of the bottle through the small opening, a technique requiring exceptional skill. Snuff bottles were used to hold powdered tobacco and featured airtight stoppers to protect the contents from humidity. These miniature art objects were popular in imperial China and served as status symbols. 13" x 1 1/2" Good condition.
