Description
A natural marine shell identified as a King Helmet shell ( Cassis tuberosa ). The shell is large, thick, and heavy, with a short spire and an expanded body whorl. The exterior surface shows natural yellowish-white to tan coloration with irregular brown zigzag markings and fine net-like patterning. The aperture is long and narrow, bordered by a prominent triangular parietal shield. Tooth-like projections line both sides of the inner lip, with darker brown coloration visible between them. This species is native to warm western Atlantic waters, including the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, where it inhabits shallow sandy environments near reefs and seagrass beds. King helmet shells have historically been used in cameo carving due to their layered structure. The shell measures approximately 6 inches in height and 5 inches in width. It is in good condition.
