Description
A natural marine shell identified as a lightning whelk ( Sinistrofulgur perversum , also known as Busycon contrarium ). This species is notable for its sinistral, or left-handed, spiral orientation, with the opening positioned on the left when viewed with the spire facing upward. The shell presents a large spiral form with pronounced ridges and raised nodules along the upper whorls, typical of the species. Lightning whelks are native to the eastern coastline of the United States and the Gulf of Mexico, where they are commonly found along sandy coastal environments, including Florida beaches. The shell measures approximately 4.5 inches in height, 6 inches in width, and 11 inches in length. It is in good condition.
