Description
A natural marine shell identified as a queen conch ( Aliger gigas , formerly Strombus gigas or Lobatus gigas ). The shell has a large, heavy, and solid form with a pronounced spire and blunted exterior spines. The outer surface shows natural tan to yellow tones with areas of rough periostracum. The interior aperture displays a glossy pink to peach-colored lip, characteristic of mature specimens. Queen conchs are native to the warm, shallow waters of the Caribbean Sea, the Florida Keys, and Bermuda, where they inhabit sandy bottoms and seagrass meadows. The shell measures approximately 5.5 inches in height, 7.5 inches in width, and 9 inches in length. It is in good condition.
