Description
A collectible commemorative plate produced by Wedgwood in England at the Etruria & Barlaston works, dating to the 1930s. The plate depicts the British surrender of Fort Sackville at Vincennes, Indiana, to General George Rogers Clark in 1779 during the American Revolution. The scene is reproduced from a painting by Frederick C. Yohn. The capture of Vincennes was a significant event that secured the Old Northwest Territory for the United States, including present-day Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin. The plate was commissioned by a chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Indiana as a historical commemoration. The design includes a detailed floral and foliate border surrounding the central scene. The plate measures approximately 0.5 inches in height and 9.25 inches in width and length. It is in good condition.
