Description

A large marine shell identified as a horned helmet shell ( Cassis cornuta ), sometimes referred to in trade as a queen helmet conch, though distinct from the true queen conch ( Aliger gigas ). The shell is heavy and solid, with a rounded, helmet-like form and prominent horned or knobby projections along the upper whorls. The exterior surface shows natural texture and wear consistent with marine growth. The aperture interior is glossy and displays orange to pink-toned coloration with defined tooth-like ridges along the inner lip. Mature examples of this species are known for their substantial size and thickened, flared outer lip. Cassis cornuta is native to the Indo-Pacific region and differs from Caribbean conch species in both habitat and feeding behavior, as it is a predator of echinoderms. The shell measures approximately 6.25 inches in height, 7 inches in width, and 7.5 inches in length. It is in good condition.
