Description
A large marine shell identified as a Horned Helmet shell ( Cassis cornuta ), also known as the Queen or Giant Helmet shell. The specimen is heavy and helmet-shaped, with a thick body whorl and pronounced horn-like knobs along the shoulder. The exterior shows a naturally weathered surface with pale coloration and residual patterning consistent with age and environmental exposure. The aperture and inner structures of this species are known for vivid coloration, while the outer lip is thickened and formed with pronounced interior teeth. Cassis cornuta is native to the Indo-Pacific region, where it inhabits sandy seabeds and is often partially buried. The species is a known predator of echinoderms and has historically been collected for decorative use, with related helmet shells also used in cameo carving traditions. The shell measures approximately 8 inches in height, 8.5 inches in width, and 11.5 inches in length. It is in good condition.
