Description
A large cushion sea star identified as Oreaster reticulatus . The specimen displays a thick, inflated five-pointed star form with a dense surface of rounded, knobby plates composed of calcium carbonate. The body structure is robust, with broad arms and a textured exterior characteristic of mature examples of this species. Cushion sea stars inhabit shallow tropical waters of the western Atlantic and Caribbean regions, where adults are typically found on sandy or rubble seabeds. This species is known for its substantial size relative to other sea stars and its distinctive armored appearance. The specimen measures approximately 3 inches in height and 9.5 inches in width and length. It is in good condition.
